About Us
A Specialized Boutique
Riley Defense Firm PC is a boutique California workers' compensation defense practice, headquartered in Westlake Village and serving clients statewide. It was built to solve the industry's most persistent problem: prolonged claim exposure.
An Insider’s Perspective
Founded by a defense litigator with over a decade of in-house carrier experience, the firm pairs carrier-informed strategy with a disciplined, disposition-focused approach — prioritizing early case assessment and cost-effective resolution.
Because high-exposure claims are fundamentally medical in nature, our in-house Registered Nurse reviews complex files alongside the handling attorney — surfacing medical records, inconsistencies, and pinpointing the issues that drive exposure.
Founder & Managing Attorney
Jamie Riley
Jamie Riley is the founder and managing attorney of Riley Defense Firm PC. He approaches every case through three principles — Precision, Performance, and Resolution — combining disciplined advocacy with proactive litigation to deliver cost-effective results for clients.
Admitted to the State Bar of California and all California Federal District Courts in 2011, Jamie spent over a decade as in-house counsel for a national workers' compensation carrier before entering private defense practice, most recently at one of California's largest workers' compensation defense firms. Across both roles he has consistently closed over 100 cases annually.
The in-house experience shapes how he handles files: he understands how a claim looks from inside a carrier — how exposure develops, what information an adjuster needs, and where defense costs quietly accumulate.
His litigation practice includes trial work, cross-examination of medical experts, and writ proceedings before the California Court of Appeal, where he has prevailed. He has led continuing legal education courses on emerging workers' compensation trends.
Jamie was born and raised in San Diego, and grew up surfing the California coast. He keeps saltwater coral reef aquariums, carnivorous plants, enjoys cooking meals from scratch, and takes on more DIY home projects than he probably should. He has traveled to more than 35 countries and has lived in Mexico, Spain, and Ireland. Navigating unfamiliar environments, languages, and cultures builds the kind of adaptability and situational awareness that carries into every negotiation.
